Waaaaaaaaa... *distant thunk of jaw hitting floor*

You have a looooooooot of stuuuuuuuuuffffff.

However--do not let our discussions of minimalism, influence you too much. It is really individual.

I have a lot of clothes. There was a time in my life when, simply, I bought a lot of clothes.

I still have the clothes. It doesn't bother me to have so many.

I went through once and got rid of stuff I knew I'd never wear, and that wasn't good enough to save for my daughter. Otherwise--I put everything in a closet. I never think of discarding any of it.

Powder eyeshadow keeps well. As long as you wash your brushes regularly (and no doubt you do), store the shadows in a non-humid environment (i.e. keep them out of the bathroom), they last for years and years.

I've even heard of people putting a few drops of rubbing alcohol on the surface of the shadow...I've never done this. Supposedly freshens the shadow. You can also scrape a thin layer off the top...I've done that with powder blush.

In short--the main reasons to try reducing a stash should be...

1.) There's so much crap in there, you can't find what you want.

2.) You have no idea what works for you and what doesn't, anymore.

3.) Stuff is going bad--need to toss!

4.) Drugstore makeup--it's easier to toss since it's cheaper.

That is really it.

My best advice to you, regarding the 50 shadows, is to keep them. Let them die of attrition. (This is assuming you're not having storage issues and can find what you're looking for in the morning.)

Naaaaaowwwww...I went through something like that. i.e. there was so much crap, I couldn't find what I wanted. I didn't know anymore what worked for me and what didn't. I had lots of drugstore so I didn't have a coronary over pitching it. And much of it--lipsticks in particular--was going bad.

So the first go-round was just opening up everything and testing it. All of my powder products passed this test. Many of my lipsticks didn't. Some actually smelled bad. Some, the color had changed. Many had dried out. I hate that.

Drugstore products that weren't getting much wear--out.

What was left, I kept. The stash was already much smaller than before.

Then--gradually--I kept going through what I had left. If it was something that didn't work--expensive or not--I put it aside. If it really didn't fly, it was outta there.

A few products went bad in the process--out.

Eventually I ended up with my current stash. Let's see. I have:

1.) 3 TBS shadows--Clover Pink, Taupe, Damson
2.) 7 MAC shadows--Samoa Silk, Silly Goose, Shroom, Vapour, Sable, Laven-dah!, Swish
3.) 1 blush--MAC Blushbaby
4.) 3 eyepencils--Revlon Brown Suede, L'Oreal Raisin, MAC Wine
5.) 2 lipsticks--MAC Jubilee and Maybelline Sweet Sorbet

That is basically it. I still have some odd stuff...Bonne Bell Gotta Date? , I still have MAC Delish but I'll need to franken it, the Cream Colour Base in Pearl, etc.

That makes for 10 shadows, 1 blush, 3 eyepencils, 2 lipsticks.

Now...I realized at one point, that if I continued to buy more shadows and lipsticks, that I would never actually use anything up. Ever.

So I decided to stop buying them.

The eyeshadows--the last shadows I *might* buy would be a blue one and a yellow one.

But is it essential? Do I miss not having a blue one and a yellow one? I don't even own a gold one and I don't care. The Shroom works well enough here.

So--the key is to stop the acquisition. Rather than be in a hurry to pitch stuff.

Anyhow that's my philosophy on it.

Of course, if you're going to give me all that stuff...then go ahead and buy buy buy! I'll take whatever doesn't work out for you! lol Just kidding.

You've got to try glycerin soap! The one I got is really good. It's Avalon Organics.

Purpose moisturizer works well too...or plain jojoba oil.

I generally don't do fancy skincare...I've had adult acne for so long, I have to stick with the simplest, least-irritating products. My skin freaks out too easily.

I will guess your skin will get better on its own, especially if the weather gets warmer (indoor heating is extremely drying). But do put some sort of non-irritating moisturizer on it, I think.
