Hello...
The year is coming to a close and I realize, I haven't written anything here in a long time.
Mostly, nothing is new. My skin has settled down as much as it's going to...with me taking my multi-vitamin daily (I'm using the same TwinLab Daily One Caps, see below for more information), a modified diet--mostly poultry and seafood and green salads. No regular beef. And I'm still on Yasmin birth control pills.
On top of this, for the past few nights I've returned to using jojoba oil on my face as a night treatment.
It's really simple to do. You put a few drops--2 or 3 will do it--in the center of your palm. You then apply the oil all over your face in a thin layer, using the fingertips of the other hand.
Give it a minute or two to sink in, then blot off any excess with a tissue.
This helps unclog pores. I stopped doing it for a while because I was trying other things, but it does work, particularly if you've managed to get your skin pretty clear already.
Another thing. MAC Blot pressed powder. I don't rave much about powders, but this one is truly worth the extra money (it's $16.50). Pat on a decent layer of this in the morning, and your face stays nice and matte all day. Far superior to anything else I've tried.
That's about it.
I'll give the jojoba oil a few more nights to kick in fully. My skin is already better with the oil than without it.

Hummm...it's been a while.
The TwinLab Daily One Caps stabilized my skin. No pimples. Still some clogged pores.
I ran out, a few days ago. I'm retrying the Kirkland Premium vitamins I bought before to see if they would work as well as the TwinLab's.
I'll have to say the difference is subtle but I feel I got better results with the TwinLab. My skin is a bit oilier now. It feels slightly bumpier. Plus (and I don't know if this is related)--my hair is falling out more?
It could all be a result of just plain switching from one thing to another. It could also be coincidental at least in part (the hair part anyway).
The main difference between the two is the quantity of the B vitamins; TwinLab has bigger doses. The amount of vitamin A is also somewhat different. Again the TwinLab has more.
It would be nice if the people who spend millions of dollars researching topicals (which don't work) could spent a fraction of that on figuring out exactly which vitamins work in treating acne. I don't think it's rocket science. It's simply that topicals can be patented.
Anyhow I'll think about it but I think I'll just repurchase the TwinLab or else check the shelf and see what else is available.

Okay...things have leveled off.
I would say my skin is better because of my new diet. It's still not perfect. The thing is this...I'm still wondering what's causing adult acne. I've been able to reduce mine, significantly, but of course I still remember my "old" skin. Until I actually see that old skin again, that means there are other factors that I'm clueless about.

Interesting. I'm doing a sort of diet. What it boils down to, is you eat lots and lots of fresh salad and fruits and vegetables, some lean meat and fish, and very little refined starch--bread, rice, potatoes, pasta--and very little sugar.
I'm not exactly going whole hog on the diet...I don't need to lose much weight...but, my skin has definitely improved. It's been less than a week and it's noticeable.
I had read that in a couple of places...that some people think it's "processed foods" that cause acne. (Also explaining why it's seemingly only American and Canadian adults who suffer from it.) That's a rather general term, but cutting the refined starches and sugar--has made my skin almost perfect again.
It's not as awful as it sounds. :) Anyhow I'll be posting about it in the Diet Blog.

Well it's been going okay... I've been sticking with the TwinLab Daily One Caps. I still can't recommend them to women of childbearing age, but for me they've been good. I figure, the 6000 IU of pure vitamin A in it, isn't that far off from the 5000 you see in some prenatal vitamins.
What can I say? Next to no pimples. Once in a while I'll get a small one. I put Differin on it and it's gone in a day or two.
I still get some clogged pores. So, no...one question I always have with acne treatments, is if it will return my skin to the way it was, for years, before I got the acne. In fact I might mention, I didn't have bad acne when I was a teenager, just the regular stuff.
So taking this multi-vitamin did not give me my old skin back. There's another factor...so what is it? Hormones in food? Genetically engineered food? Long term effects of taking certain birth control pills? Again, utter silence...while the people with acne suffer on. And acne is only what you see.
I do want to stress that I think for most people, there is a strong nutritional factor. It's well worth exploring. Do discuss it with your doctor. Find out what sort of multi-vitamins you can safely take. Give it a shot. What do you have to lose?
