Look-alikes Page
Last modified:

This section is named in honor of maggie, whose idea it was to have a look-alikes section. (You may also refer to the Beauty Buzz copycats page.)

The copycat concept is that you can often find a lower-priced or more easily obtained substitute for a particular cosmetic item. (This may include look-alikes for discontinued items as well.) Post that substitute here, preferably with a few notes as to the similarities and dissimilarities--help your fellow cosmetiholics!

I'm going to start with some look-alikes I got off LP...if you see your discovery here and I haven't credited it to you, please email me so I can fix that.

Original Sub Commentary
Lancome "Rose Charmant" Blush Subtil Neutrogena "Sweet Raisin" Soft Color blush Discovered by: Josephine. "The 'Rose Charmant' is more sublime, it's practically idiot-proof, and lasts all day. The 'Sweet Raisin' is slightly deeper in color, has a touch of red where 'Rose Charmant' has a touch of true rose, and lasts respectably for hours."
Maybelline "Pink Tangerine" Jane "Blushing Baby" Discovered by: mmc. "I like both, but the Jane lasts longer on me than the Maybelline."
NARS "Orgasm" Milani "Luminous" Discovered by: shan. "I have both, and I'm quite amazed at the similarity. There is a SUBTLE difference between the two, but it's so slight that I don't think a non-lipstick pager would notice!"
NARS "Orgasm" Prestige "Silk" Discovered by: ?...a board oldie but goodie.
Stila "Fade" Prestige "Putty" Discovered by: ?...another board oldie but goodie.

Bobbi Brown "Garnet" MAC "O" Discovered by: lesliew & Ang.
Chanel Glossimer in "Spark" Prestige lipgloss in "Spark" Discovered by: Myriam. See comments about taste/smell under "Alloy" below.
Chanel Glossimer in "Twinkle" Caboodles lipgloss in "Smile" Discovered by: Myriam. "The Caboodles lipgloss is pretty good quality, too. Goes on smoothly, stays put and doesn't have a weird taste. ...you can't see a difference - except for $20."
Chanel Glossimer in "Twinkle" Prestige lipgloss in "Alloy" Discovered by: Myriam. "...it's slightly lighter than Twinkle, but the *taste*! Good heavens, the thing smells ghastly, I'm not kidding. It's a plastic-sweet taste that's hard to describe, but I find it pretty revolting. It's sad, because the gloss itself is pretty good."
Chanel "Ruby Slipper" Revlon Super Lustrous "Dune Rose" Discovered by: Signy.
Clinique "Blushing Nude" Wet'n'Wild #518B Discovered by: Rosa. "W&W #518B is the exact same color as Clinique Blushing Nude, except the #518 has a drier texture and has a slight crayon smell. The Clinique has no scent and is moisturizing and smooth."
Clinique Quickliner for Lips "Lipblush" Almay Amazing Lasting lipliner "Nude" Discovered by: teresa."...a dead ringer..."
Clinique "Tenderheart" Almay lipgloss "Blush" Discovered by: Cecelia.
Clinique "Tenderheart" L'Oreal Rouge Pulp "Blushing" Discovered by: hat-trick. "The only difference is that Tenderheart has a slightly peach cast to it, and Blushing is the same color (pinky/browny) without the hint of peach."
Clinique "Tenderheart" Wet'n'Wild #712 lip pencil Discovered by: mmc.
Club Monaco "Glaze" Bonne Bell "Grapevine Whine" Discovered by: Dain.
Club Monaco "Glaze" Stila "Natalie" Discovered by: Dain.
Estee Lauder "Tawny" lip pencil (discontinued) the Professional brand lip pencil "Tawny" sold on makeupmania.com & makeupkits.com Discovered by: stellina. "...identical...at a fraction of the price."
Estee Lauder "Tawny" lip pencil (discontinued) Wet'n'Wild #663A lip pencil Discovered by: Dain.
Jane "Bareberry" Barely Lips lipstick (discontinued?) Burt's Bees "Honesty" Wings of Love lipstick Discovered by: Josephine.
I'm working from memory, since I no longer own "Bareberry." "Honesty" though seems very close to that particular natural, berry/brown shade.
Jane "Rosy Outlook" Barely Lips lipstick (discontinued?) Revlon Absolutely Fabulous "Crave" lipstick #09 Discovered by: Josephine.
I discovered this quite by accident, I wasn't even looking for something exactly like "Rosy Outlook." They don't look 100% similar in the tube, but on, I consider them dead ringers.
Laura Mercier "Tea Rose" lipstick Maybelline Wear n Go "Go Pink Sand" Discovered by: Lipstick. "They are about the same density. When you rub on your hand Go Pink Sand is a little more mauvy and Tea Rose peachy pink but with the difference in price, you won't see the difference.... at all."
Others dissent: "...I have both and I think they're different - the LM is warmer, and the Maybelline is more neutral." --stellina.
Lipstick: "I agree they're a bit different but when I put them on, very hard to notice. Maybe it's because my real natural lip color is not very light."
LORAC "Lovely" lipgloss NARS "Babydoll" Lip Lacquer Discovered by: Dain.
LORAC "Brooke" MAC "Twig" Discovered by: Rene'.
L'Oreal Rouge Pulp "Exposed" Jane Barely Lips "Hardly Honey" Discovered by: Josephine. "Exposed" in lipstick form.
MAC "Lychee Luxe" lipglass Delux Beauty "Jasper" gloss Discovered by: jakadu. "...pretty darn close...the Jasper has a bit more pink to it and the consistency is a bit thinner, but not too thin."
MAC "3D" Jane "Loco Cocoa" Discovered by: Nicole S.
MAC "Desire" Prestige "Sheer Grape" Discovered by: Rosa. "Prestige Sheer Grape is the same color as MAC Desire, except the Sheer Grape has an offensive scent (in my opinion) and is dry; the MAC has a scrumptious vanilla scent, is moister, and the color lasts longer."
MAC "O" Prestige "Fudge Brownie" Aromatherapy lipgloss Discovered by: ?. lesliew reports that, while "Brownie" and "O" are similar, BB "Garnet" is a closer match.
MAC "Sequin" lipstick Almay One Coat "Sequin" lipstick Discovered by: Myriam. "Can't see a difference whatsoever."
MAC "Spice" lip pencil Wet'n'Wild #712 lip pencil Discovered by: ?. This has been around for a while, but thanks to mmc. for reminding me!

Also, they cost a heck of a lot less! :)"

Better Botanicals Calendula Cleanser BWC Herbal Cleanser Discovered by: EdinaMonsoon? Contributed by Red. "I think Edina posted this on FaceOnline...I haven't tried the BB, but I use the BWC every day, and it's a great product (and cheap!)."
Cetaphil CVS Gentle Skin Cleanser Discovered by: Rosa. "CVS Gentle Skin Cleanser is the same as Cetaphil, at a little more than half the price."
Elizabeth Arden 8-hour cream Aquaphor ointment Discovered by: hat-trick. "It does the same thing without the medicinal smell. I always read how models put the 8-Hour cream on their lips to moisturize, but to me the smell is gross. I certainly don't want to ingest it. Anyhow, Aquaphor is the best lip balm I've ever used."
Sundari essential oils Bindi essential oils Discovered by: Dain. "Nearly identical to Sundari's for half the price."
