Kashuk vs. Jane
Comments: My fave low endy eyeshadow. Expensive: $5 per
pan. But the best thing for those of us with a
warm complexion. They last all day, and the texture
is nice.
The packaging...not bad. A small rectangular
silver thing that pops open. I have to store them upside-down
in my drawer, otherwise I haven't a clue which is which.
But the thin, spare shape fits many shadows into small
spaces.
Here are the ones I've tried:
Descriptions
Amethyst
--much more subtle on than it looks in the pan. In fact it
is very sheer, not horribly shimmery either. Less grey than
Jane "Purple Heart" and "Plum Perfect" (both of which tended
to look ashy on me). But still too grey for me.
Aubergine
--not bad...an interesting, reddish plum shimmer.
Barley
--"cool" medium brown matte, sheer but buildable.
Blossom
--sublime light pinky lavender matte (unusual, most lavenders
tend toward the blue).
Bronze
--like "Barley," sheerer than you'd think. Also light. A
light goldeny bronze shimmer.
Golden
--this turned out to be one of my favorite SK shades...shimmery
pink-golden-brown.
Larkspur
--Subtle, dusty medium purple, with slight shimmer.
Lilac
--I had high hopes for this, as a longer-lasting substitute
for my beloved Jane "Shrinking Violet." But "Lilac" is a
tad too cool and blue on me.
Malt
--a light-to-medium, goldeny matte brown.
Similar to Jane "In the Buff" but I would say deeper in color.
Mink
--medium "cool" brown shimmer...subtle shimmer.
Moonstone
--warmish medium mauve/brown matte.
Plum
--matte dark plum...makes a gorgeous liner.
Sable
--dark brown matte. It's luscious as a liner, but since I have
Revlon PowderLiner "Brown Suede," the same color in lazy pencil
form, I ended up not using it.
Sadye Pink
--it's much subtler on than it looks in the
pan. In fact, it's too subtle on me, not pink enough. Light
pink matte, similar to Jane "Pretty in
Pink" (but with more staying power).
Starlight
--white with gold shimmer. It's softer on than it sounds; you
can use it for daytime if you apply lightly.
Sunlight
--subtle pale gold shimmer.
Sunrise
--light pink-peach shimmer.
Whisper
--the perfect soft off-white matte base shade.
Here are the rest of them (writing from memory):
Cashmere
--light brown shimmer.
Gunmetal
--I believe this is a brightish grey shimmer.
Ink
--warm-looking dark navy blue matte.
Night
--dark grey matte.
Opal
--this looks like a real Josephine magnet...white, with a touch
of pink, and what looks like subtle, opalescent shimmer.
Platinum
--light grey shimmer.

Kashuk vs. Jane
If you're a Jane shadow afficionado, you'll notice the similar
colors. The Sonia ones are almost always warmer. (On the
other hand Jane has more innovative colors.) Here are the ones
I find similar:
| Jane |
Kashuk |
= |
!= |
| Rock Star |
Barley |
cool medium brown mattes |
Rock Star is definitely cooler/greyer. |
| In the Buff |
Malt |
warm light-to-medium goldeny brown mattes. |
Malt is more intense on. |
| Coolest Coral |
Sunlight |
light yellowy/peachy shimmers |
Coolest Coral is yellower, Sunlight more pale golden. |
| White Lies |
Starlight |
white shimmers |
Starlight is truly superior. The gold shimmer makes it softer
and warmer on. |
| Purple Heart |
Amethyst |
purple shimmers |
Purple Heart is darker and greyer than Amethyst. |
| Grape Vine |
Plum |
plum mattes |
Plum is definitely warmer/less grey than Grape Vine. |

Pretty in Pink is a tad cooler than Sadye Pink. |
| Hi Ho Silver |
Gunmetal |
grey shimmers |
Sorry, haven't tried either. |
| Smart Cookie |
Bronze |
bronze shimmers |
Bronze is lighter and more goldeny. Smart Cookie has
more red. |
| Shrinking Violet |
Lilac |
