"Wearing" mode...
posted by Colleen Shirazi, January 29, 2006 at 11:41 AM (Pacific)

I've stopped making new earring designs for a while. Basically I'm trying out what works.

The oldest earring I have that I'm still happy with, is the one with the round black cloisonne bead. It's simple...I have the bead with a golden round bead inside, plus an aventurine bead (? it's a stone that's mostly deep green, some with pink or white in them), and a freshwater pearl. Simple, yet slightly different, and the cloisonne gives the earrings an Asian flavor.

Then there are my pink earrings (glass and rose quartz), and my green glass ones--both the blue-green ones with the freshwater pearl and the gold-finished green glass ones...and the red ones my son made. These are all good.

The one with the diamond-shaped cloisonne is slated to be dismantled. The beads are good but the design is too simple.

I doubt I'll get around to wearing the blue glass flower ones for the same reason...too simple.

I still have a bunch of earring findings to play with. I'll probably check the shops some more to see what they have. General Bead in San Francisco has the best earring findings, I'd say, because they have a lot of sterling silver...it's pricier but nicer...but it's hard for me to get out there. I'm going to try some local stores.

P.S. The niobium wires are worth every penny, for sensitive ears. I only wish they had gold-finished ones.
