What I'm up to these days...
posted by Colleen Shirazi, July 5, 2006 at 7:47 PM (Pacific)

Pretty much I've been redoing some of my old pieces. My object is to simply get better at the stuff that I'm not that good at yet...and the cost to fix this and that (assuming you've designed the piece well to begin with) isn't much.

The funny part is how customized my jewelry is becoming. I can say I'm not used to that. All my life I've gone into a shop and basically chosen from what was there. It's entirely different if you're making it yourself.

For example, the blue lace agate piece...it doesn't look like much when it's not on, and doesn't look like much in the pic imo. But when I wear it, it's almost too perfect. It really does look custom-made.

Then, I'm going back on some old earring designs and converting them over to sterling silver or gold-filled wire. The plated stuff looks good the first time you wear it...and maybe the second time. After that the plating wears off.

The possibilities seem endless at times so I'm developing slowly and going back over the pieces until they're perfect.
