Hot Dog Sandwich
posted by Colleen Shirazi, Wednesday, June 29, 2005 at 3:38 PM (Pacific)

This can be made with any kind of hot dog.

Per sandwich:

* 2 slices of your favorite sandwich bread (whole wheat tastes best here imo)
* 2 hot dogs
* vegetable oil
* mayonnaise
* dijon mustard
* sliced fresh tomatoes

Pop the bread into the toaster. Butterfly the hot dogs...cut in half lengthwise almost all the way through, then pull the two halves open and make it flat.

Put a little vegetable oil in a skillet. Brown the butterflied hot dogs in the oil. They burn fairly easily so keep an eye on them. Brown both sides.

On the toast, spread a thin layer of mayonnaise and then a very thin layer of the dijon mustard. Place the browned hot dogs on one slice, cover with a couple slices of tomato, then top with the other slice.

Now, lay aside whatever skepticism you may be experiencing. These are really tasty sandwiches, much better than just sticking the dog into a bun.
