Preventing urinary tract infections
posted by Colleen Shirazi, Wednesday, December 21, 2005 at 11:41 AM (Pacific)

I used to get these all the time. Then I got a tip from, of all people, my father-in-law (although I suspect it was my mother-in-law who figured it out :D). He said to stop wearing pantyhose.

At the time I was wearing No Nonsense. NN used to have one of those cotton panel things but at one point they quietly switched it to all-synthetic.

Anyhow I stopped wearing pantyhose. If you wear long skirts you can do the little-old-lady thing and wear knee-high stockings. They still sell regular garter stockings at Target (I used to get mine at Woolworths where they had a far superior selection). I'll guess Victoria's Secret sells them too but I think Target has the better price.

This will cover everything except miniskirts...here I would suggest finding those pantyhose that have a real 100% cotton panty build into them. Or you can use these instead of the garter stockings but I find the latter to be much more economical (get a run in one leg, you still have the other).
