Lipstick ramblings...

Posted by Colleen Shirazi, Friday, January 20, 2006 10:32 PM (Eastern)

Dunno, just feel like rambling.

I went for about a year, using "only" one lipstick for everything. Was it a year? I used up a couple lipsticks that way (a novel experience for a lipstick ho)...MAC Jubilee and Viva Glam V...and made a big dent (about half used up) in Sophisto.

I've concluded that even under the best circumstances, having only one lipstick doesn't make sense. I know, in the old days, women did own only one lipstick. But I figure...meetings? job situations? You can't wear red lipstick for those (I suppose this might depend on what job you're doing, but it's too much for me). You need something more neutral, yet not dead. (MAC Sophisto gets my vote here.)

You can't wear neutral lipstick all the time; life is too short. My personal preference is for reddish shades. Not screaming red exactly (I'm not knocking it, it just doesn't look right on me) but pink-brown shades with a healthy dose of red...a red "look and feel" (so far MAC Spice It Up and Clinique Apple Brandy Butter Shine are working well here).

I'm not sure how the three-lippy model plays out (vs. one lippy). I'll update later on.
