Posted by Dain, Wednesday, November 01, 2006 7:29 PM (Eastern) What does one mean by "minimalism"? Classic minimalism is a handful of carefully thought out essentials. The third and enlightened stage of cosmetic-junkie-ness. The first, you're a beauty neophyte, you have no idea what looks good on you and you probably only have a few things. The second, you are a beauty junkie, with lots and lots of products, many of which you don't ever use. Minimalism takes you away from the chaotic (and expensive) second stage, and forces you to refine your choices so that you never buy anything you don't need. There are women who experiment every day with their makeup, but that isn't me, and it probably isn't you either. I just use the same products day after day, and there's a simple reason why: they're the ones that look best on me. Actually, minimalism is simpler than that. It's the virtue of being a good and responsible consumer, always buying the best but never what you don't need and reaping maximum pleasure out of your purchases. It's a great idea. Here is my "minimalist" list: 1. rosy blush: Becca Wild Orchid Creme Blush 2. black mascara: L'Oréal Carbon Black Voluminous Mascara 3. leave-in conditioner: Kerastasé Resistance Ciment Anti-Usure Fortifying Treatment 4. concealer: Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat 5. moisturizer: Nuxe Crème Fraîche 6. rosy lipcolor: NARS Gothika Lip Gloss 7. eyeliner: MAC Teddy Eye Kohl 8. two eyeshadows to match (whisper of gold, whisper of lilac) and mix (an ethereal pink): the lilac hue from the Clé de Peau palette and the champagne hue of the Dior Brun Casual palette (which is also an excellent highlight) 9. cleanser: LUSH Ultra Bland or Bliss Clog Dissolving Milk or both? 10. shampoo: PHYTO Phytonectar Shampoo 11. body lotion: Palmer's Cocoa Butter Lotion (fragrance free) 12. conditioner: Terax Crema Conditioner 13. serious lipstick: Kevyn Aucoin Enchantaberry The Expert Lip Tint 14. soap: LUSH Sea Vegetable 15. the hardest of all, fragrance: Serge Lutens Tubéreuse Criminelle beauty, cosmetics, makeup, perfume, skincare, Skin Care, haircare, hair care |

November 3, 2006 7:43 PM,
Nice list!
It's funny, I've become rather minimal about everything except perfumes. And eyeshadows, sort of. I'm not buying new shadows, but have no interest in paring down what I have.
As far as perfumes, I like to mix them. I'm not sure anymore if any one scent can be my signature scent. I just like combining existing scents to make new ones. I'm not good enough to concoct an actual scent myself.
