Why I passed on the rest of the Deneuve collection I got this from the Catherine Deneuve collection, a year ago. Up until now it hasn't been my "go to lipstick," since I was using up MAC Sophisto. Sophisto is used up now though, so Strawberry Blonde has assumed its place. And, the thing is, I'm starting to really like it. And it is, or was, limited edition, so once I've used this one up, I can't replace it. On a philosophical note, I've never been one to stock up on limited edition items. In some cases, it does make sense to do so...I just find it...annoying. If it's that good, why is it limited edition? I usually look around for a look-alike instead. So far, from tooling around on makeupalley.com, I've gleaned two candidates: Julie Hewett "Gem Noir" (this appears to be the discovery of cordysmum) Nars "Niagara" (Satin formula) Gem Noir looks more promising than Niagara; the latter seems pinker, a pretty shade in its own right rather than a true copycat. There was a rumor that MAC Legendary Femme lipstick would prove to be a "re-promote" of Strawberry Blonde, but the pics and reviews I've seen indicate that it isn't. Even if it were though, Legendary Femme itself is limited edition. Labels: julie hewett, lips, lookalikes, mac cosmetics, nars |
