I have a guilty fascination with Fergie. Normally, I dislike sellout pop stars, but for some reason, I respect her. She's not pretty, she's totally untalented, she's greedy and superficial and vain. But she's good at it; almost like a genius for mediocrity. In fact, she flaunts it, which is strangely admirable in a way. Also, I get the feeling that she works her ass off.
There's this one video I was obsessed with: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hU8k_c2YlG4 It's tacky, but it cracks me up. That line, "If you ain't got no money take your broke ass home!" always gets me. And then she walks into a backyard kegger (and they tell you this, and highlight the ubiquitous red cup)! Drinking champagne while flying first class, and watching herself on broadcast, oh, sooo cheesy. But she's accurate enough: "I'm not clean, I'm not pristine." But why, in her videos, does she feel compelled to spell out her theme? Is she afraid that we might think her illiterate?

Mmm, Fergie...I dunno, I'm too old to appreciate the finer points of pop music. Like the miniskirt or saturated-color lipstick, pop music is for the young, as well it should be.
Punk was the thing when I was that age. If I look back on it now, a lot of it was cheesy.
All of that said...I respect Fergie too. She seems quite democratic...you'll see the same with Madonna, Mariah Carey, Yulduz for that matter (gotta love Youtube, you can see and hear these singers for yourself)...she always hires a lot of people for her videos.
I don't think Fergie is untalented, but I do think she should sing more, and leave the rapping to people who can't sing.
