Beauty Notes: Sometimes, It's the Packaging That Suckers You In

Posted by Dain, Friday, August 17, 2007 12:36 AM (Eastern)

My curiousity is piqued, even though I've never tried any of these products in any way. But they're so pretty to look at, you know. I don't know why, but these are all from gothic romance, swirly patterns on dark...

Juara Rice Facial Scrub ($25) is a line I've never heard of until now, evidently based on Indonesian beauty rituals. It features rice starch as its star ingredient, beyond that I don't really know what it's about, but I'm looking for gentle scrubs so it seems ideal. And the packaging! It's the sort of product that you leave out on your bathroom sink hoping that snooping guests will see it and marvel.

I was hoping RSVP might be similar to NARS All About Eve, because I only use one shade from the duo. Champagne shadows choke the market, but I was especially curious about this one because—well, you guessed it—because of the packaging. Kissing doves, it's quite artful, what a lovely product for your makeup bag. Also, cream shadows are smarter for travel, because you don't risk breakage. I did try it out, though, and the shimmer is too coarse for my liking. I need a subtle, complex shimmer, because the effect I want should mimic light. Oh well. (There are plenty of other fine shades.)

I've never even sniffed Zen (it sounds like a clean, soft floriental), don't even know if it would suit me, and by all means it is Feminité de Bois that is Shiseido's most regaled potion, but the bottle is so gorgeous! Gorgeous enough to be one's lone perfume, if ever such a crazy notion were to take me. (It won't. Yikes!)
