Posted by Dain, Monday, August 27, 2007 4:54 AM (Eastern) It's reeking with absurdity. It's a soap opera, after all, but in an entirely... well, Asian way. Dream life (I speak in general terms): American soap operas are about rich people being bitches, British soap operas are about poor people being coarse, French stuff seems to be about people living romantic, whimsical existences, but Asian soap operas seem to be about down-at-heel individuals who overcome obstacles through sheer stubbornness, to dizzying success. It's addictive, in such a bad way, like junk food. Such hammy acting! It's appalling, yet fun, as the best chick flicks are. Labels: culture notes, tv |
