Posted by Dain, Thursday, August 23, 2007 9:33 AM (Eastern) Sure, style, when a woman has it, is something hard to pin down because it's all about the individual. But in practice you can't just wear anything you want. It is not really a matter of a specific shoe or shirt, but rather a question of whether an outfit flatters or no. Dressing for men isn't style, it's something else altogether, and I don't feel equal to addressing it. If you are worried about "not appealing to men" because you're too dressed up, don't bother. Whatever assets you have, they will see it. How may I count the ways? Is it the bleached, overprocessed hair? The nasty pornstar makeup? The dead look in her eyes, probably from near starvation? The skinny jeans (my opinion on skinny jeans remains resolute)? The luxury-plaid shirt cum trench jacket, drapey AND tailored (huh?)? The Victoria's Secret pose? The structured bootie that owes much to Christian Louboutin (it's ok, just too much to add to this particular outfit)? The ladylike clutch (out of place)? The atrocious expense (about $1500! poo!)? I think we're missing a fake tan here. Perhaps the only saving grace is that none of the clothes clash; no great feat there, how difficult is it match black with grey? None of these items are that bad individually , but put them together and... To put it succinctly: fashion victim. Someone please explain to me: why does fashion these days insist on women looking awkward? Awkward models, awkward clothes, awkward stylings... What the hell is going on? I seriously want to know. I mean, I see no reason why this girl can't be wearing a shirt that fits* and some proper lipstick. I don't disapprove of the style (glorified t-shirt dressing) when it's well done, videlict: ![]() ![]() *Now don't you go bridling up in defense of Philip Lim. He's fashion's darling, like Marc Jacobs of yore. He's destined for commercial success of the mediocre merit kind, which is probably damning with faint praise.
