Posted by Dain, Tuesday, August 21, 2007 12:16 AM (Eastern) ![]() ![]() ![]() Anything with a very shiny finish could be termed glossy, and gloss should be self-evident. There are face glosses and hair glosses and eye glosses, but of course, the most popular is lip gloss. The more pigment a lipcolor has, the less glossy it is, which is why clear glosses can have a very tacky, glassy, patent-like shine, while lipsticks tend to be creamy rather than glossy. On the face, this finish is usually called dewy, and is usually paired with bronzer because one has shinier skin in the summer. Glosses aren't necessarily shimmery, as they have nothing to do with particles or pigment, but shimmer will intensify the effect. Nailpolish is invariably glossy, though matte topcoats do exist.
