Above: It is really difficult to capture holographic or iridescent shades in still photographs, because the unique finish comes from movement. I think I've circumvented the difficulties somewhat by using nailpolish, which demonstrates its qualities better. You'll notice that the white shade has a bluish iridescence to it.
Usually, a color of the shimmer complements the base shade. But occasionally, one will find a shimmer that contrasts with its base, enough to give the impression that the shimmer is somehow "floating" above the base shade (which may itself be shimmery). This is called holographic, or sometimes iridescent (softer than holographic). Depending on the light and the angle, the color will shift.
