Posted by Dain, Saturday, September 22, 2007 1:14 AM (Eastern) ![]() ![]() Bois Blond ($105) is an unconventional fragrance, which was what drew me in. That, and the cedar, a note I wanted to explore. It begins with a peppery blast, which I find an enjoyably unexpected affront to the nose, like an insult that makes you laugh. It leaves a very brief impression, before moving onto the centerpiece of cedar, by no means aggressive but exceptionally polite. It is partnered with the unlikely note of hay (and to a lesser degree, tobacco and galbanum): crisp, redolent with the pungent heat of herbs, a slight nutty sweetness, lingering sunshine. The drydown is sharp and milky. I'm not sure what to make of this perfume. It smells very much like sweetgrass incense. It is certainly the most interesting I've sniffed in a while. There is a suggestion of intimacy, and yet, at the same time, such reserve. It is heartbreakingly beautiful in the chill air, but indoors, its savage tendencies drive me to ambivalence. It would suit Morgan le Fay, but not me. Notes: cereals, grass, galbanum, cedar, hay, blond tobacco, amber, musk. Labels: beauty notes, parfumerie generale, perfume |

September 22, 2007 1:30 AM,
Cedar is a neat note. I wouldn't have thought so...there are many cedars in Virginia, honestly I never thought they smelled so great. But in perfume it can very soft.
Montale's Aoud Roses Petals has a cedar note, but it emerges only in the drydown.
