Beauty Notes: Parfumerie Generale Cadjmere

Posted by Dain, Tuesday, September 25, 2007 12:37 PM (Eastern)

This is an aptly named perfume. It is a woodsy fragrance, centered on rosewood with a bit of cypress resin and sandalwood bark, but one so tender and unassuming that truly it does bring to mind the texture of cashmere, soft and luxurious. Unlike Bois de Copaiba, which allows woods a full rein to their aggression, so that it ought to be called "arid scimitar of the male" instead, Cadjmere is softened by the sweetness of coconut milk, vanilla, and the golden warmth of amber, and has a radiance to its woodsiness that I've seen only in L'Artisan Parfumeur Méchant Loup. The top note is fleeting (red mandarin), but so is the heart, rosewood. I find this to be an amber scent for most of its duration, accented by rosewood. I love amber, so I love this, but Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan in its unadulterated glory is far superior.

I think Iris Taizo is FBW, but they were all a joy to sniff. My overall impression of Parfumerie Generale is that they are extremely well executed (a few of them I find enjoyable, but on others, not me), but lacking in originality. If you are looking for a particular note, well done, then Parfumerie Generale is highly recommended.
