Posted by Dain, Sunday, September 16, 2007 3:29 PM (Eastern) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Yellow is a sunny, bright color. By itself, it needs no explanation. It can be pale, hard, like citrine (slightly brownish, greenish), pastel like lemon or butter (lemon is generally brighter than butter, while butter it almost like cream), warm and golden like buttercup, honey (transparent, slightly brown, and sometimes shimmery), marigold (deeper, browner), or butterscotch (more brown than marigold). It can be rich and powerful, like saffron, or dirtied like mustard. The occurrence of yellow is somewhat rare, but its metallic, gold, is exceedingly popular. Like yellow, gold has a range of undertones, from white gold to amber (if you go deeper, you have bronze, which is a metallic brown). Brass is a slightly dirty gold, antique gold has a deeper, greenish cast, amber is full of almost orangey warmth, and there are even pink golds. Sometimes honey is a gold, rather than a yellow.
