An Array Ecumenical: The Black Bra

Posted by Dain, Wednesday, October 17, 2007 8:33 AM (Eastern)

Though most guides will tell you that it is the seamless nude bra that is essential, I think black is actually more useful, once you have found one that fits well and suits your taste. The Black Bra is sexily sophisticated like playtime lingerie, yet is neutral enough for everyday wear, and unlike lighter shades, does not get dingy and looks deliberate under sheers (the only exception may be white t-shirts, but that matter will be addressed next). Same holds true for black underwear.

I would recommend at least one more bra (you need at least two) of perhaps more frivolous bent, from naughty to nice, from sweet & simple cottons to the most sophisticated satins and handmade laces. I recommend the wonderful La Petite Coquette blog for ideas.

One thing I've found that works if you need a lot of support--a convertible strapless bra, the kind with that pattern of clear "glue" inside it.

I got a few of these to use as strapless bras, but found them so supporting, I ended up just wearing them, with the removable straps attached.

I like your black bra rec, I've since gotten some of these, some nude ones...very handy.

I know nothing about support. I'm a 34B, which can go braless. So if I have missed something, by all means... But I've tried to include a plain one, and a padded one, which are more supportive than the sheer lacy ones.
