Posted by Dain, Wednesday, October 17, 2007 10:39 AM (Eastern) The Layering Camisole should not be confused with the type of camisole that constitutes loungewear or an actual top or tank top for hot days. These are worn alone, or with a cardigan if it gets a little chilly, but not so much as an underlayer. ![]() The Layering Camisole is what you wear under anything sheer, from tissue-thin tees to delicate chiffon blouses, to prevent indecent exposure. Though it seems simple enough, you do not want to choose anything that too closely resembles a top of itself, because then the effect is more like an awkwardly layered double-top. You may think, "ok, let's get us a nice little cotton tank top from the GAP!", but as well as that layers under tees, it looks frumpy and mismatched under an ornate blouse. Or, you may incline in the opposite direction, tantalized by some satin-and-lace boudoir confection, but anything intended for display tends to look out of place under a simpler shirt. I recommend something intermediate: lace. The added bit of texture does not look overdone with a tee, yet a bit of lace peeking underneath a blazer, cardigan, or v-neck sweater adds a touch of sex appeal. The Layering Camisole should have an underwearish feel, but should not be so intimate that you cannot wear it alone should the occasion require it. It should have skinny straps and a v-neck that flatters your cleavage, which will match the greater variety of tops. As for color, I recommend one similar and optimally flattering to your skintone for maximum versatility: white, cream, light pink, peach, grey, taupe, chocolate, black. The Layering Camisole also has some added benefits. It'll soften the effect of The Black Bra under shirts, it'll disguise belly flub, and it's quite sexy on its own. Labels: an array ecumenical |
