Posted by Dain, Monday, October 22, 2007 10:42 AM (Eastern) ![]() Tops tend to be more variable than bottoms, but there is no denying... What could be more classic or unpretentious as The Simple Tee? Apparently, not. Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of expensive clothing I adore and perhaps inadvisedly buy, but a $200 t-shirt is just bullshit, though the mania has filtered down into the mass-market for "better fit" tees. I think even $30 is expensive for a t-shirt, I mean, it's a t-shirt for chrissakes. Granted, I don't wear The Simple Tee very often because I find it a little boring, but it's not really hard to get, they're a dose of casual. You put it on with a pair of jeans to kick around with no makeup on. You wear it when you run after your kids and don't have time to worry about keeping things neat and clean. You slouch in a pair of tailored menswear pants to channel a sort of high-low cool. You throw on a tank top with a long, breezy, colorful skirt to beat the heat. But they are NOT "haute couture". Just find tees that graze your figure in colors you love. Jewel-neck is the classic round collar, boatnecks will flatter a slender neck, and v-necks of course emphasize cleavage. Polos, I think, are similar to tees, except with collars, and tank tops are just tees without sleeves. That's pretty much it. How many does one need? None, if it doesn't suit you. A dozen, if it does. Inexpensive ones that flatter your figure will become clothes that you can treat rough without worry, or you may be like me and prefer more dressy clothes, so possess but a few. A long-sleeve black boatneck that I use to "dress outfits down", and a rainbow psychodelic henley that is quite the novelty tee (I am plainspoken, but not plain-clothes). And a ribbed tank or two for when it gets too hot for anything else. Labels: an array ecumenical |
