Beauty Notes: Bisous de Provence Wild Rose Triple Milled Soap

Posted by Dain, Thursday, October 18, 2007 8:08 AM (Eastern)

I was turned onto these soaps by Colleen. The company that imports them offers more scents, but they are less expensive at Trader's Joes ($2.99 each). Oddly enough, in the shower I am drawn to the notes I shun in perfumery, so my favorite is the petal-streaked Wild Rose, which is sweet and soapy without the sharpness that accompanies most rose scents (also the reason why Caron Parfum Sacré is the only rose-central perfume I like). Citrus Verbena is my second, it's creamy and addictive and as refreshing as a fine sorbetto di limon after too much chianti, and I am no more a citrus girl. I'd also like to see the Bitter Almond scent distributed...

I like the smell of the Wild Rose so much, I started washing my face with it, exclusive to all other products (I used Jurlique Herbal Recovery Gel afterwards, and Decléor Aromaessence Rose d'Orient for any delicate spots—it turns out my current routine is all rose). I didn't expect it to happen, but my skin has never looked better. Astonishing. One of the great myths of skincare is that you should never wash your face with soap, because it dries out the skin and leaves a film. It is drying, but it seems to dry up the nasties, i.e. it clears up my skin, perhaps it is mildly antibacterial, though the ingredients make it out to be a normal enough soap, if a little finer than your drugstore Ivory or Dove. For the time being, my skin is not so dry, so I just rinse thoroughly and go... I like how unpretentious a routine this is.
