Fashion Notes: Haul from Coach

Posted by Dain, Sunday, October 21, 2007 9:56 AM (Eastern)

I have better things to do than approve of everybody and everything. Wish I could say I was a better person, that I was kidding, but I can't deny it, I'm a born snob, and nothing offends me more than common, popular consumer goods. So I've always turned a sanctimonious nose up at Coach, not least of which because Coach still seems to be laboring under the delusion that labelmania is still in. But I had this $200 gift card, see, even though that's won't get me close to one of their ugly bags (like look at this clog, how can they charge $188 for something sooo ugly?), there must be something, eh?

There certainly was:
I knew I wanted these suede gloves ($98), which are the darker, richer blue of the evening sky in real life. I'm no haberdasher, but they seem to be of good quality to me, and the cashmere lining (in spite of the website says) will keep your fingers warm in hard frost, and the length is long enough to keep your wrists well within your coat's sleeve.

Then I was stuck, because I had only $100 left, and I didn't need a wallet (since I have one already, plus a backup I ordered by mistake) and I wasn't gonna get a wristlet and suffer the embarrassment of carrying around a Coach bag (snob, again), but I found this Bleeker Tattersall cosmetic case ($98) quite cute, though mine looks somewhat different from the picture. The little leather label is gilt, not plain embossed, and the stitching is a check pattern that echoes the fabric, but no big deal. I just got rid of the annoying little dog tag. This is a pleasant size for when I travel, though I don't carry enough makeup to use it everyday.

I haven't heard anything good about Coach in years. It seemed to start out strong, then quickly devolve into...I hate to say just another bag made in China, but hey...

Those items look useful at any rate.

Man, I only needed the gloves, to be honest. I'd rather have gotten cash.

They are nice gloves. I'm with you, it may be old school but cash is a good gift. :D
