Posted by Dain, Thursday, October 25, 2007 11:08 AM (Eastern) ![]() I cannot aptly describe Caron Parfum Sacré—one of those rare creatures that stands alone in an industry notorious for imitation—perhaps because it shifts in character so abruptly from top' to 'down. At first a classically trained aldehydic floriental (though it is of recent origin, 1990), it begins as an assault of lemon, pepper, mace, and cardamon, before settling into a classic marriage of rare florals: jasmine, neroli, and rose. The overall impression is of religion and incense, not the austere atmosphere of a Buddhist temple, but the pomp and circumstance of Roman Catholicism. Rose is the last to emerge, and as it crescendos, the louder personalities that dominated suddenly die down, and are replaced by Parfum Sacré's second personality, as calm and smooth and intimate as a fragrant bath. Sacred myrrh, the glow of amber, the gracing touch of vanilla, and the lingering afterimage of incense sing in harmony to the ever more glorious rose... This is the best perfume I own, or indeed, have ever sniffed. I do not wear it often, but when I do, I can feel the weary world arighting itself around me. I concur, it is THE best perfume I have ever owned. It even beats out Rose2000 which, almost 8 years later, has finally given up the ghost. It's gotten strong and bitter and acrid.
The very first blast of it, I was all "EEEEWWWWWWW! This smells like some cheap AVON cologne!!" But it only took a few moments for it to mellow into that deep, dark, calm, lush, richness. That's exactly how it makes me feel when I wear it too!
I bought a decant of this, scent unsniffed off of your rec and, baby, it is a winner. It's spoiled me though. I don't wear perfume much at all anymore but when I do, this is THE one.

I had the same reaction! At first I was like, agggghh what the fuck grandmas! And then, it turned into... well... you know very well. I've learned to spray it from far away, it makes the top notes dissipate more quickly. It is reaaaaally cheap somewhere... parfum1.com, but I see it's now twice what I paid.
