I had heard of Joy Gryson, she was the accessories director of Marc Jacobs and was now pursuing an eponymous solo line, but new and upcoming designers of any stripe are a dime a dozen, and in any case, I rather detest Marc Jacobs. Long before his des into whateverism, I thought the bags themselves are hideous—all that expense and fuss and hardware. So I wasn't prepared to like Gryson, but even though I generally prefer a prim and proper style, these are so cool and tasteful, a blessed breath o' fresh air among so many indifferent offerings.
