Present Perfect: I Rode My Bicycle Past Your Window Last Night

Posted by Dain, Monday, December 03, 2007 3:20 PM (Eastern)

I admit I got this idea from December's issue of Vogue, but they were very silly about it. They raved about how the model Agyness Deyn made a sensation at the shows by commuting via bike, and how one can wear heels and skirts and never worry, all of which is so frothily superficial that I felt a little ashamed for Vogue as I read it.
But I still think a nice bike is a good gift, especially if you live in a city and dislike the expense, the laziness, and moral culpability of driving a car. Gas prices? Insurance? Exercise? Iraq? Carbon dioxide emissions? Let it all go with a chic green bicycle by Schwinn ($339).
