Beauty Notes: Thumbs Down on Parfums Raffy

Posted by Dain, Sunday, February 10, 2008 8:20 AM (Eastern)

Though Colleen can attest to a successful purchase from Parfums Raffy, I have had a negative experience. I ordered some Bandit, thinking it was EDT, and got some EDP instead. When I emailed their customer service expressing my irritation, I was officiously told that though the product is 5% stronger, that there was no difference in the product, when I know full well that it is otherwise: the parfum is relatively flowery, the EDP is relatively grassy, the EDT is relatively leathery. This is why I tested so rigorously in the first place, so that I would know which specific concentration to buy. Now I must go through the trouble of returning this product (I loathe the post office), and the expense will be half the cost of this product, which is ridiculous. It's a small amount of money, and I'm not cheap at all (I spend money prodigally), but on principle, I object that I pay for their mistake and their very inconsiderate service. It would be one thing if I had gotten the product I had wanted and hated it—that's just a consumer's gamble—but this is a product I did not even want in the first place. I will not be purchasing from this site again.

This is odd: Robert Piguet Baghari : Fragrance Review

If you do a string search on the page, Bois de Jasmin claims there is no EDT concentration of Bandit unless it is older than ten years.

I went to the Fashion Fragrances and Cosmetics site; only the parfum, eau de parfum and lotion of Bandit are mentioned there.

It's weird. I sent an email to Fashion Fragrances... to ask them if there is a real EDT still being made.

That is very strange, because I've definitely tested the EDT.

It is bizarre...I've seen references to the EDT all over the Net. Some etailers have it on their sites, but say the item is unavailable. Most of the images posted with the EDT are of the EDP.

Someone on Basenotes thought the EDT version of Bandit for Women was the same as the version of Bandit sold to men. Bandit for Men seems to not be widely available though.

Then there is Fracas for Men. Again, widely mentioned, people bought it, tried it...but hard to find for sale now.

On the Robert Piguet etailer site, there's no Bandit EDT nor any Bandit or Fracas for Men:

I suspect Bandit EDT and the men's versions of Bandit and Fracas were produced at one time, but were discontinued, perhaps quietly so. It would explain why people have tried them, and why there are still references to them on various etailer sites, but I suspect once the current stock is gone, it won't be replaced.

Parfums Raffy still has yet to contact me. : ( I made sure they had time to respond before I posted this, but they just don't have good customer service.

They just contacted me... And offered to refund my shipping, but only because I had made a fuss on the point.
