Manolo Blahnik "Yambamod" ($650-ish, I forget exactly), available at Barneys. They are surprisingly comfortable, comfortable enough to dance in all night. And these are most definitely party shoes, but they'd finish off summer dresses equally well. They are beautiful shoes, but I couldn't really tell you, in any concrete or definite terms, why I love them so. Luxury is strange. Some women will scorn me as a spendthrift and others still will outmuscle me with twenty pairs of Louboutins, but who the hell are these women? Bores on one side and nitwits on the other: I don't collect shoes, I wear them. Though my belief system does revolve around beauty (money is the gravitational pull), my approach is in fact quite practical. Luxury, to me, is peace of mind. It looks great and won't fall apart on me—I can wear and go without worry. That is essentially my philosophy towards material things. Pure visceral enjoyment is for food and sex, not shoes or eyeshadows.
