Wedding Bells: Introduction

Posted by Dain, Sunday, May 04, 2008 6:23 PM (Eastern)

For a long time now, I've dabbled with the idea of writing a series on weddings, but stopped short of completion. A wedding is so deeply personal, I feared to tread on toes with anything less than perfection.

In this series:
  • There are no white roses, stiff-as-frosting dresses, nor Tiffany solitaires; if you have any imagination, you can dream these things up yourself, and LP readers are very capable, I believe, of forming their own opinions.
  • It's your day, after all, and if there is one day where you're allowed to insist on your taste, it's this one. Consequently, I've attempted to give three more idiosyncratic aesthetics: The Purist, The Adventurer, and The Romantic. I took a great deal of care to choose pieces that are unique, even unexpected, but not impossible to wear. Pieces you could conceivably wear again, save the dress of course.
  • Cost, however, was no object. These pieces are intended to inspirational, rather than a how-to guide. I have absolutely no idea how to plan a wedding. Perhaps just this one piece of advice: don't try to control everything.
  • When it comes to cosmetics, I've already written an article on bridal makeup. In general, I would suggest fresh, classic makeup that is not much more elaborate than what you might usually wear, because it is a major buzzkill to worry about makeup.
Tune in tomorrow for the first article!
