Beauty Notes: Balmain Jolie Madame (Vintage) Review
Posted by Dain, Friday, March 21, 2008 3:02 PM (Eastern)

"Dry your eyes, baby, it's out of character."

Jolie Madame is a leather chypre that thrives in the sultry, humid air of the tropics. Silky petals of gardenia, neroli, jasmine, and tuberose seem to lend a sweet, sunny brightness to the opening, but when night comes, it reveals a darker side, a fine, supple leather shadowed by vetiver, oakmoss, and castoreum. From the same nose of Bandit, Germaine Cellier, the composition is an exhibition of restraint, paradox it may be, like a woman of great poise whom everyone knows is no virgin. Jolie Madame, indeed. It reminds me of the demure and angelic Kelly Calèche, without any "off" sensations.

I have been told by the lady who sent me this sample that the vintage and reorchestration are miles apart, which is rather sad. I'm not interested in the hunt.

Yeah, and she wouldn't wear much makeup, either and she still looked like that. =P
