Posted by Colleen Shirazi, Friday, January 20, 2006 10:32 PM (Eastern) Dunno, just feel like rambling. I went for about a year, using "only" one lipstick for everything. Was it a year? I used up a couple lipsticks that way (a novel experience for a lipstick ho)...MAC Jubilee and Viva Glam V...and made a big dent (about half used up) in Sophisto. I've concluded that even under the best circumstances, having only one lipstick doesn't make sense. I know, in the old days, women did own only one lipstick. But I figure...meetings? job situations? You can't wear red lipstick for those (I suppose this might depend on what job you're doing, but it's too much for me). You need something more neutral, yet not dead. (MAC Sophisto gets my vote here.) You can't wear neutral lipstick all the time; life is too short. My personal preference is for reddish shades. Not screaming red exactly (I'm not knocking it, it just doesn't look right on me) but pink-brown shades with a healthy dose of red...a red "look and feel" (so far MAC Spice It Up and Clinique Apple Brandy Butter Shine are working well here). I'm not sure how the three-lippy model plays out (vs. one lippy). It's sometimes weeks before I even realize there are comments and I can't seem to log on to Blogger from my computer. My husband has tried and tried to get it working but it just won't. I can't log on at work either so that leaves the laptop. The laptop my husband is using for school. I don't get access very often. In my world, there are three types of liners: gel/cream, liquid, and pencil. I haven't experimented with a lot of different brands in the gel/cream and liquid formulas. I tried liquid eyeliner as a teenager and I wasn't very good at it. I'm better at it now but I find that the gel/cream formula gives pretty much the same effect but is more versatile. My favourite eyeliners are either in gel form (MAC Fluidlines being the only ones I've ever tried) or in pencil form. Pencils must be soft yet long-lasting. MAC eye khols and powerpoints as well as Lancome khols fit the bill. I don't like the texture of the Nars, Passport, and CD pencils I've tried. They've all been too hard to apply comfortably. Narrowing my collection down to only a handful is very hard, not so much because of colour but because of texture. Between a creamy espresso brown khol and and espresso brown gel, which do I like best? It really depends on the effect I'm after. The gel will give me a pure clean line, as thick or thin as I want. The pencil will give me a soft more or less smudged line. 1. MAC Fluidline in Rich Ground: I usually wear brown liner for a more classic or professional look so the gel makes sense. Rich Ground is a golden reddish medium-dark brown. I only just got it for Christmas too :) 2. MAC Fluidline in Waveline: a second professional colour, navy with purple undertones and just enough shimmer to not look flat. 3. MAC Minted khol: this is another Christmas gift. It's a bright emerald green. Because everyone needs a pretty, bright colour or two... 4. MAC Fluidline in Royal Wink: the second pretty, bright colour in my list. Matte royal blue. Here, I leave a space for the perfect purple liner, preferably a Powerpoint. A clear, true medium-dark purple. Some slight blue undertones would be acceptable. Here, another space for the perfect olive liner. Something just a tad darker than MAC Rosemary & Thyme.
