HURAAY!
I survived christmas. Its gone for a whole 'nother year.
*huge sigh of relief*
I did get some incredibly good stuff though:
From the 'rents-
A mill & brew coffee pot. OHGOD, I looooooove this. Ya put whole beans in it and it grinds it and brews it AND you can program it to turn on in the morning so you can have freshly ground and brewed coffee awaiting for you when you awake. cool. cool. cool.
Red velvet hat from coldwater creek. A beautiful set of red mixing bowls also from coldwater creek.
A CD player of my own to use when I go for my walks. (I'd been borrowing DH's)
A set of fleece gloves, hat and scarf to wear when I walk.
An umbrella so I can even walk in the rain.
Thermal longunderwear bottoms so I can walk in the cold.
My sweet, darling children picked all of those out for me. I was so impressed!
DH bought us the house this fall. :) plus the weight bench.
MIL gave me this brown and babyblue striped hooded chunky knit sweater with great big buttons. Its lovely. Of course, I picked it out in Nov. and she bought it but made me wait and unwrap it yesterday. Its so cute and cozy. From Target.
I did pretty darn good on the diet, all things considered. I'll post about that in the diet blog later sometime.

I think I'll make myself that scarf. I've had the magazine for a year I think.
Its a wool scarf and its like 6 feet long. Hobby Lobby has the yarn.
Just gotta find the mag. and see if I've got the right size needles. Maybe I'll go tonight or tomarrow and get it started. Then I can knit myself calm right through all of the holiday/relative madness that is my christmas.
No, I'm NOT a granny but Yes, I do love to knit. I've not knitted anything in a very long time. Hmmmmmm. After Xmas I'm going to start some project. Maybe a scarf.
Yes, a scarf.
For myself.

A loving wife leaves her bed at dawn:
elegant and graceful, with a slender waist,
a deep navel and ample hips;
her splendid mane of hair with curling ends
flowing loose, a wreath of flowers slips down.
With faces radiant as golden lotuses
and long, liquid eyes; with lustrous red lips
and hair playing enamored around their bodies,
women shine in their homes these wintry mornings,
bearing a semblance to the spirit of beauty.
(from The Gathering of the Seasons, Canto V: Winter)
I will be SO glad when Xmas is done. The family feuds have begun as of this morning.
*sigh*
The thought of the coming solstice makes me glad though. And New Years Eve and Day are always my favorite holidays of this season.

BAH.
Its raining this morning. Its been raining since last night and its supposed to rain, rain, rain all day.
BAH.
I hate this rain. Christmas is about a week away and we have no snow. We need snow. We're supposed to have snow. Where's the *bleepity bleep bleep* snow?
Snow at christmas time is good for the spirit. Rain isn't. Rain is for spring and summer not christmas.
I'm alittle cranky. Does it show?
Blame it on the rain.......

Various Names for the Full Moon of December
English name-Moon Before Yule
Native American names:Cold Moon, Long Nights Moon, Little Spirit Moon
I like to watch the moon go through her phases every month. I was inspired to look up the various names of each months full moon by a book I read a few months ago. A psychologist had kept a journal for a year, 13 moons worth of journal writing and then published it. It was an interesting read, to say the least.
Tonight, in an hour or two, when I take my dog outside for one last potty break before we all retire for the evening, I shall walk out in my back yard and look upon the Moon of the Long Night.
We spent yesterday afternoon putting up Xmas lights on our porch.
It looks good.
We've got icicle lights around the roof, rope lights twisted around the rails and up the side posts and there is a little xmas tree shaped bush by the front steps that we also put lights on.
Its pretty simple compared to some of the houses I've seen. Its pretty though. I think I'll try and get some bows to hang on the porch posts and maybe some jingle bells or something for the front door.

We went to the library today. While I was there, I noticed on of my former co-workers hair. She's probably in her late 40's, early 50's maybe. Her hair is almost as long as mine and its totally grey. I asked her as we were checking out if she was letting it grow and how much I liked it. She thanked me and told me she wasn't intentionally letting it grow but she'd just not gotten around to cutting it. I again told her how much I liked it, how I wanted to be a little old lady with a long, grey braid rather than one of those horrid "little old lady" grey frizzy, permed nightmares that so many of them wear. She laughed and told me she wanted to grow old with style.
I did like her hair. It was in really good shape. I love it that she wears it naturally grey and long and does her own thing rather than give in to such fashion advice as "color your grey"and "once one is past a certain age one shouldn't wear ones hair long".
I really don't care how anyone wears their hair as long as they are happy and free to do their own thing, their own way and not listen to what we women are "supposed" to do to look fashionable and hip.
I'm going to just let mine grow, grow, grow and see just how long it will get.
Why?
Because its there.

I'm so happy today. I've been happy for several days in a row now. Even DH noticed. Not sure why, I'm usually one who fights a daily battle with depression. Especially this time of year. Could be several things.
1. I've been taking st. johns wort regularly for over a month now.
2. I've been exercising regularly since we moved in here, 2 months total.
3. We're in our own house.
I do think its a nice combo of the 3. I've noticed all 5 of us are getting along better. I think the house has alot to do with it. I know I feel so much more secure and stable in our own home than when renting.
Whatever the reason is, I'll take it. Its so nice not to have to deal with that black cloud of depression in my head that can dog me.
Speaking of dogs, the kids had ours howling this afternoon. They got her all wild up and barking her fool head off when she delicately lifted her nose to the ceiling and burst forth with the most melodious howl ever a dog could do. It was SO cute! I just love that dog. :)

Our new living room set was delivered an hour ago!
Its so pretty. We bought a new sofa and loveseat friday after thanksgiving. Its a plaid of cranberry, navy, huntergreen, deep purple squares with small gold lines through it. We're going to paint the walls a deep red and put a copper wash over the top. It'll be so rich and elegant looking. I'm hoping by xmas we'll have the walls done.
We were talking of all the plans we have for the house and my youngest piped up "Boy, we're really making it our own, aren't we." I wanted to cry 'cause IT'S OURS! After 5 years of renting, its just way to much fun to be able to decorate to our own tastes.
We have oldest boys room almost done to his specifications. We still need to paint our room and the younger boys room. Our room is going to be a greyed purple, youngerboys room is going to be red&blue with at NASCAR theme. Oldest boys room is bluegrey with a wolf print border. I still need to come up with a color for the bath. I love to paint. We NEED to paint, everything is matte chalk white.
