Oh, bleh. The usual Web-based compromise.

I was going over the site again and learning more about CSS, and realized that some aspects of "Web standards" do not work in my browser.

So, again--the usual compromise. I am converting everything over to styles but I am not implementing Web standards.

For someone who learned Java before learning HTML, this is incredibly annoying. There is no real reason that HTML could not have been standardized in the first place.

Anyhow I am adding a section on CSS called Style Sheets for the Weary.

Everything is "done" now except for Tech. I left it for last since some of it needs to be rewritten.

I'm not sure yet about the link colors. I hate doing stuff like that, I'm colorblind. My daughter picked the bright blue visited link color.

I was going to go for two shades of red, but light red doesn't look good. It's easier to find a good lighter blue.

Then I had to do the colors for the side menu. Red is easy...red tells you where you are in the site...but I'm not sure about the two shades of blue highlight.

Did you know we have 2,856 HTML pages on this site?

Oops...don't forget to watch The Graham Norton Effect tonight. It's at 10:00 PM on Comedy Central.

This is not a family show, it is for adults. I don't mean it's hardcore anything but it is risque humor. And Graham Norton is quite funny.

Okay! Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-check it out! (One of my favorite videos btw, I love the Star Trek fight scene and the two old ladies throwing fish.)

The only section that needs to be redone now is Tech.

Okay...Health is finished. Home Management will be next.

I also went back and standardized all of the site blogs that I've already redone.

whew! It seems monumental but again, it is a matter of tackling one section at a time. :)

Hey guys! If you use Google ads on your site, do set up the new-ish Google site search.

It is not a big deal...go to your Google account and "subscribe" to it under Account Information/Products.

Once you've done that, you will see a new "Search Settings" tab on top of the page. The setup is exactly the same as for the regular Google ads.

At first I was skeptical, cos I pictured this boatload o' ads on the search results page. It does have a lot of ads but a.) it's not any worse than the original Google site search and b.) you get paid if people click the ads on the search results page.

Try it out!

Okee...Food & Travel is finished. We have a couple really good articles in there, if you haven't read them.

One is on Peru by Raphaelle and one is on Scotland by Kristin. Good stuff--have a look.

Travel Index

I just remembered that the Personal Index is not complete. Bleh. Well that's not a priority.

This is the "paint one wall" technique of rehauling a website *g*

Sometimes the only way to redo the inside of your house is to paint one wall at a time, on the weekend. Because if you try to tackle all of the painting that needs to be done at once, you won't have the time to do it all.

I'm redoing literally every page in this site. It's the cosmetic HTML, plus bringing in the stylesheet, plus bringing in the menu, plus archiving some stuff, streamlining some stuff...

Then Tech needs to be rewritten somewhat since some of it is now out of date.

Frustrated? moi? heh heh...nope. I do it one section at a time. Sooner or later it'll all be done.

Okee dokee...Fashion is finished. Tech/HTML for the Clueless is finished. Everything in between, still needs to be worked on.

It's fantastically boring work but I think I'll be able to finish it soon enough.

Okee dokee...we're getting two new things at once.

One is the side menu. This is Javascript as you may have concluded.

I got up to Food & Travel on it, and Personal and the Site Tools stuff is already finished.

We're also getting a new stylesheet and the pages of the site are being converted over into 21st century HTML.

I'm still working on Fashion as far as the stylesheet goes so I am doing both at the same time.

Ultimately we will have much fewer pages in the site since we'll no longer need most of the index pages.

There will be some other developments in Q3 that will make the site stronger and better and far more interesting, but these will not be announced until they actually happen.

sigh I still can't believe that Blogger got Microsofted. I'm typing in this little box...it's barely two inches wide.

I had a cute dream last night. I never get cute dreams, in the main...they're either bad, or else abysmally stupid and not worth remembering.

I dreamt that both Sam Donaldson and Pat Buchanan, were interested in me.

Which one to pick? I ended up with Sam but I was still wondering, as I was waking up, if I shouldn't have gone with Pat instead.

lol!

Pat was really a gentleman about the whole thing.

Sheesh, I'm probably watching too much "Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn." That guy brings every Irish friend he has on the show. I'm even starting to dream about Irish guys.

What the...? happened to Blogger?

It doesn't work in my Netscape 6.x browser. I'm writing this from, get this, my IE 4.x. The crappy little IE that came with this clunker. I'm surprised it even does newlines.

Oh well. I was going to update this blog.

We're basically finished with the LP site. A few more things remain to be done, but by next quarter I want to return to working on the main broadroom site.

I'd like to revamp the navigation here. I already got rid of the frameset, but I'm going to add a frameless, side menu of some sort throughout the site.

We will return to writing book reviews and blogging and all that good stuff.

The site overall will be streamlined...fewer pages, easier navigation.
