Pros: Milani Eye Shadow
Cons: Java Bean [pictured]

I finally broke down and bought myself some nice new Milani shadows. When I got home, I realized that Milani Java Bean looked very, very close to my MAC Sable.

Java Bean is slightly darker and more taupe-based, where Sable is slightly redder and more brown-based. They both have the exact same pinky shimmer and they look quite similar on.

Java Bean is less pigmented than Sable. With Sable, a very small amount goes a long way. For me, however, that can be a good thing. I always found Sable a bit hard to work with because of the color intensity.

My advice is to try out Java Bean if you've been thinking about buying Sable. I like Sable well enough but I've used it only a few times since I bought it. I think I would have been just as happy with $3 Java Bean.

If you have Sable, then by all means skip Java Bean.

Pros: Milani Eye Shadow
Cons: Spice

I do realize that I put Milani Java Bean also as a look-alike for Sable.

All three have similarities...but Spice is closer to Sable than Java Bean.

Java Bean has a slight plumminess to it, rather than being a pure red-brown shimmer.

Spice is almost a dead ringer for Sable.

Is there some advantage to buying Sable itself? Well, it blends more easily than Spice. The lasting power is comparable...the MAC may well last a bit longer on. But I found them to be next to the same.

You can probably save some money by trying the $3 Spice before investing in the $13 Sable. I bought Sable first, used it some...eh...it's okay on me. It ended up going bad...the MAC shimmer shadows tend to dry out and get hard on me...you can still use them, but you have to sweep your brush over the shadow quite a bit to pick up color anymore.

Hence, the look-alike concept.
