Pros: Wearable, lovely raspberry sheer

Update: 2/13/2006

I stand by my "10" rating; here is why.

I've found Sophisto to be ideal as a workplace lipstick. The beauty of it, is that it is nice and sophisticated, but it doesn't really "show" as lipstick. i.e. your lips look professional.

I've found this out fairly recently as there have been occasions where I needed to present myself in a male-dominated field as being competent without being "fluffy." Of the four lipsticks I now own (the others being Clinique Apple Brandy Butter Shine, MAC Spice It Up and Strawberry Blonde), it is Sophisto that has held up best in such situations.

Original review:

I don't lemming often...and when I do, I do it late in the day. A prime example of this is Sophisto. As others on the board are repurchasing it, I am trying it for the very first time.

Sophisto does not look like much in the tube. On, it is a surprisingly wearable sheer raspberry shade with a little bit of shimmer.

I generally don't gravitate toward berry shades, as pretty as they are, since many of them seem too cool, purple or harsh on me. But Sophisto is somehow tempered with enough pink to make it turn a natural berry shade on my lips.

It has more color than Viva Glam V, the other lipstick I currently own...and it is cooler...so women who were not happy with the sheerness of VGV, or found it too warm, may well be happy with Sophisto.

The staying power is okay...it lasts well for a sheer. I'd say I touched up about three or four times during the day. It's not "get me a mirror, my lipstick won't even last an hour," more like, "before I go into the bank, let's touch up."

I'm happy owning both since VGV is somewhat more versatile (Sophisto is too cool to match my warm eyeshadows).

But I highly recommend Sophisto if you are looking for a natural sheer berry, "reach for" lipstick.

I'm on my second tube of Sophisto and I got through the first tube in less than a year. On me, this is a very natural my lips but better colour. It just adds a berry-red slightly shimmery touch to my lips. When wearing it, I just look healthier without looking like I'm wearing lipstick. Because of this, it goes with pretty much all the blushes and shadows in my collection. This is the lipstick I wear by default, i.e. the one I turn to each and every time if I'm not set on wearing a specific colour.
