Most vetivers you will encounter are fresh, woodsy colognes, punctuated by the brightness of citrus. Not so, is Vétiver Oriental. It mines the leather-chocolate richness that shadows the verdancy of vetiver, by placing it against a blend of dark chocolate, dark woods, and dark resins: sandalwood, gaiac wood, amber, benzoin and laudanum, the latter lending a rough and animalic tinge. The only bright spot is a little iris, at the top, which should give you an idea of how bottom-heavy a scent this is (iris is usually a base note in most compositions). Exceptionally erotic, and yet not obscene enough to be sexy.
Excellent if you like them dark and rich, but not well suited to those who prefer more transparent styles. It is perhaps the perfume I would choose as a gift for a very special man.
