Palm Vx - I click an icon, it does something else
posted by Colleen Shirazi, Monday, August 22, 2005 at 1:23 PM (Pacific)

Okay so now I could see the screen on the Palm. Now, whatever I clicked, it did something entirely different.

Going to the manual (it's a PDF, download it from the Palm site), I was informed that I'd need to calibrate my stylus again. I would need to find the Prefs screen in order to do so.

Fine, but how to find the Prefs screen when the stylus was not calibrated correctly? I finally did find it. It was in the lower right-hand corner of the screen...and by this I mean in the very corner of the lower right-hand corner, away from any of the icons.

Seems to be working fine now.

Dark screen on Palm Vx
posted by Colleen Shirazi, at 1:17 PM (Pacific)

So I was troubleshooting someone else's old Palm. I charged it...it was charged...but the screen was dark, i.e. a black screen.

I went to the Palm site. Their sole advice for dark screens on a Palm Vx was to click the small button on the top of the unit, on the left-hand side (assuming your Palm is facing you). This is to launch the contrast control bar. You are to put the Palm in very strong lighting (a flashlight works btw) and scroll the contrast until you can see the screen again.

Fine, but clicking that button didn't launch jack.

Finally I got to the many levels of reset that this Palm has. I tried the first one--you poke that tiny reset button in the back of the Palm. That didn't work, but the second reset did--you put the Palm on its charging cradle, then poke in the little reset button.

Voila! Suddenly the screen appeared. I tried clicking the contrast control button at the top...that worked now too.
