I'm having one on my sinuses next Wed. I've had MRIs before but not a CT scan. Anything I should know?

Arabella, I've had numerous CT scans. Includeing my sinuses. It is painless. You lie down on your stomach with your face pointing into the face rest area and they slide you into the donut shaped machine. Both ends of the machine are open so you don't feel clausterphobic at all .

Good luck ! I hope you feel better soon.

I didn't like the claustrophobic feeling of the MRI and since this is my face, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to take it. You've helped allay my fears.
I am feeling much better. I've been on antibiotics for almost 3 weeks to knock out this infection. I think we got it this time. I'll be glad to get back to normal. Of course, now, it's allergy season up here!

Yes, I've had many and they are exactly as Rhonda described. I didn't find them claustrophobic at all (and this is said by someone with mild-to-moderate claustrophobia).

A.
I send my good wishes your way. Hope there is some solution out there for you.
My mom had CT/MRI that eventually led to sinus surgery to remove pollyps. It went well, but it took time. Improvement has been marked, although not a complete "cure."
My grandmother has regular CTs (4 in the past half-year), as she is being treated for cancer. To her -- even at age 80 and sometimes as nervous as a spooked cat -- they're no big deal.
However, if you are feeling anxious, ask your nurse practitioner about how other patients handle that. Is there a relaxation technicque they recommend? Can they give you a mild relaxant/sedative? Sometimes merely expressing your trepedation can alleviate it. I hope your dr/nurse is a good listener. Not all of them are.
Also, try to get them to schedule an appointment for results quickly, and at your convenience. They can turn the results around pretty fast -- in a matter of hours, if need be -- but I know our clinic sometimes is notoriously slow. Once it took 2 1/2 weeks for my grandmother, with cancer, to get results, because it wasn't "convenient" for the dr, etc. UNACCEPTABLE in modern American medicine. Be assertive and get what you need. If they are not cooperative, get a second opinion -- in another city, if you have to.
Again, good luck
