Rediscoveries:
Tarts! I love the way strongly scented tarts make my house smell. Iam burning Cozy Cottage Scents Grapefruit Watermelon right now in my kitchen. I can smell it all the way into my bedroom.
Curious about:
Crater Lake Company perfume, lotions, etc.
For me, I've rediscovered:
* Guerlain L'Heure Bleue, this has always been too much for me--too sweet, too ornate, too old-fashioned--but for some reason I find this absolutely exquisite now. Golden sweet, spicy, sexy florals galore.
* Alfred Hitchcock's Rebecca seemed seriously overrated the first time I saw it, but I see now that it's really just oh-so-very English, everyone nearly vibrates with strong emotions, but they have to keep it all in. It's
I'm curious about:
* I realllly want to sniff the new Frederic Malle, Dan Tes Bras. It's violet leaves and cashmeran (a synthetic that's supposed to be a mix of woods, musk, and resin, which this composition features an overdose of), supposedly an intimate take on sensuality. Mmm... just seems so delicious. Now if only October would come faster.
* I've got a reading list: The Aeneid, a bunch of Faulker (As I Lay Dying and Light in August, I should probably reread The Sound and the Fury, I don't even really remember it), A Confederacy of Dunces, and maybe something ambitious, St. Augustine, maybe?
Black hair, light golden-undertoned skin, dark brown eyes. Asian.
Rediscoveries: Not many. I read Something Rotten and First Among Sequels, after years of not reading Jasper Fforde. He's pretty fun.
Lately I've had Bach's concerto in D for two violins stuck in my head; I used to listen to that all the time when I was in high school. I should listen to more Bach; I got out of the habit.
I spend most of my year in another province, so I sometimes forget what I have at home. I discovered these blue Nine West shoes I bought on sale last summer. Oh my, they are awful, but they amuse me so much. They look a lot like these:
Only worse, they have this pointy toe and a little gold nautical-looking link. They are the moderately priced shoe equivalent of those flower-strewn D&G capris I marvel at in the windows of Yorkville every year, those skinny aging rich bitch pants. But I find them hilarious and wear them with very plain outfits and am amused.
Curious about: Besame, but will have to wait until it shows up on eBay because I'm not paying $25 for shipping, yikes. I have a little box of their loose translucent powder (eBay) and it's pretty charming, although I think loose powder might not be for me.
Holt Renfrew USED to carry Besame.
The Phyto products (Phyto 7 and Phyto 9). I have no need for these things, since I have a bottle of Kiehl's creme at home (it will probably last me for years!) and a couple of tubes of Rusk Phyto-Marine Lusterizer (don't know what's in that stuff, but it works for me) in my other home, but if I find Phyto stuff somewhere for a good price I might pick it up anyway. I don't have really dry hair, but the ends get splitty.
I will have to try NARS Beautiful Liar lipstick when it comes out here -- the description ("spiced coral") is yelling my name, but at this point it would have to be a very special colour indeed to be worth buying.
Dans tes Bras does sound intriguing. Eep.
Reddish brown hair, pale warm-toned skin with freckles, green eyes.
It cleanses the palate, and after all, fashion shouldn't take itself too seriously. If you look too perfect, it's kinda humorless. All those "fashionistas" who wear all black, ach, yes, it works very well, but I don't understand why women who work with fashion would take the most joyless approach.
Hm, PHYTO 7 is the only thing that's worked for me thus far, but I'll admit I haven't tested too widely. It honestly infuriates me. It's expensive, and a tube doesn't last long. You don't see effects at first, but cumulatively, it's the only thing that seems to make parched ends silky soft. I've got my eye on trying out the Giovanni Direct Leave-In.
